Open Skills Education (OSE™) is a global skills-equity framework designed to eliminate academic gatekeeping by replacing traditional grade-based requirements with verified, skills-based access to employment and economic participation.
Founded by Kenyan innovator Alfred Gitau Mwaura, the movement shifts the educational focus from “Where did you go to school?” to “What can you do?”.
Key Components of the OSE™ Framework
- Open Access Training: Learning opportunities are available to everyone regardless of their background, gender, or prior academic performance.
- Digital & Blockchain Certification: Learners receive skills-based certificates and digital badges that are globally readable and instantly verifiable by employers.
- Industry-Led Implementation: The framework is primarily applied through specialized training hubs, most notably the Kenya Coffee School and Barista Mtaani, which focus on hospitality, agribusiness, and digital literacy.
- Global Alignment: OSE™ directly supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 8 (Decent Work).
