On 19th June 2026, Strathmore University will host a thought-sparking conversation led by Alfred Gitau Mwaura, Founder of Kenya Coffee School and Barista Mtaani, exploring the transformative power of coffee beyond the beverage itself.

The presentation, themed “Beyond the Cup,” challenges us to see coffee through a broader lens. Coffee is more than what we drink—it is a catalyst for employment, entrepreneurship, culture, innovation, and human connection.

“When I look at a cup of coffee, I do not only see coffee. I see people. I see jobs. I see livelihoods. I see you and me. I see humanity.”

Through the Barista Mtaani movement, young people are discovering that coffee can be a pathway to skills development, meaningful careers, and economic empowerment. The conversation will explore coffee as a global beverage culture, emerging industry opportunities, the future of barista and specialty coffee careers, personal branding, and industry best practices for aspiring professionals.

The session also highlights an important truth: talent exists everywhere, but opportunity does not. By bringing coffee education, mentorship, and entrepreneurship closer to communities, Barista Mtaani and Kenya Coffee School are helping bridge that gap and create pathways for the next generation of coffee leaders.

As the coffee industry continues to evolve, success will belong to those who can think beyond the beverage and understand the people, stories, and opportunities that exist throughout the coffee value chain.

Join us as we explore how one cup can spark conversations, build careers, strengthen communities, and inspire solutions.

Beyond the Cup. Beyond the Beverage. Beyond Expectations.
