“Good 4 Trade” (G4T) is a digital certification system by Kenya Coffee School that verifies products come from legal, ethical, and sustainable supply chains, especially for agricultural produce like coffee, while other “trade certifications” refer to professional credentials in various industries, such as the Global Trade Certificate (GTC) and Certified Trade Finance Professional (CTFP) from the ICC Academy for trade finance, or recognized qualifications in trades like plumbing or electrical work. 

What is “Good 4 Trade” (G4T) Certification?

  • Purpose:To provide a credible, transparent, and accessible certification for products from sustainable and ethical supply chains. 
  • Scope:Applicable to various commodities, including agricultural produce and timber, and suitable for businesses of all sizes. 
  • Principles:It is built on four core pillars, focusing on Legality & Governance, Humanity (equitable income and community investment), Authenticity (single-origin and farmer stories), and Planet & Prosperity (climate resilience and EU deforestation readiness). 
  • Benefits:Helps businesses demonstrate responsible practices and allows consumers to make informed purchasing decisions. 

Other Types of “Trade” Certifications

  • Trade Finance:Certifications like the Global Trade Certificate (GTC) and Certified Trade Finance Professional (CTFP) from the ICC Academy provide foundational or advanced knowledge of trade finance products and solutions. 
  • Trade Skills:For specific vocational trades, a trade certification is a recognized qualification that demonstrates an individual’s skill and knowledge in a particular field, such as electrical work, plumbing, or HVAC. 
  • International Trade:Fairtrade certification, audited by FLOCERT, is a well-known certification that ensures products meet specific social, economic, and ecological requirements.
