Go Beyond the Grind: Barista Mtaani’s Program is Your Coffee Business Incubator

The coffee cart, the kiosk, the pop-up coffee bike—these are the new engines of youth entrepreneurship in Kenya. The Barista Mtaani initiative, powered by the Kenya Coffee School (KCS), understands that mastering the art of the perfect espresso is only half the battle. The other half is mastering the art of the coffee business.

Barista Mtaani, which means ‘Barista in the Neighborhood’, is a social enterprise movement dedicated to turning skilled baristas into job creators. Our training programs are unique because they seamlessly integrate technical coffee skills with practical Business and Financial Literacy modules.

You will learn:

  • The Hustle: How to design a low-cost, high-impact mobile coffee setup (a ‘kibanda’ or cart).
  • The Numbers: Costing, pricing strategy, profit margin calculation, and smart inventory management.
  • The Branding: Developing a local brand identity, harnessing social media for sales, and mastering customer service that builds loyalty.
  • The Value Chain: Where to source high-quality, ethically-traded Kenyan beans and how to roast/blend for local tastes, maximizing your profit margin by adding value.

We offer Post-Training Support through mentorship, networking with microloan providers, and connecting graduates to prime market opportunities. Barista Mtaani is not just a school; it is an ecosystem of empowerment. We are committed to fostering a new generation of local coffee entrepreneurs who will drive domestic consumption and directly support Kenyan coffee farmers.

Stop waiting for a job; create one. Join the Barista Mtaani movement today and brew your way to financial independence.
